Senator Liz Miranda endorses Attorney Allison S. Cartwright for Clerk of the Supreme Judicial Court alongside City Councilors from throughout Suffolk County

April 8th, 2024 - Today State Senator Liz Miranda is announcing her endorsement of Attorney Allison S. Cartwright for the Clerk of the Supreme Judicial Court, alongside Boston City Councilor Liz Breadon, Revere City Councilor at-Large Marc Silvestri, Winthrop Town Council Vice President Hannah Belcher, and Chelsea City Councilor at-Large Roberto Jiménez-Rivera.

"I'm truly honored to endorse such a qualified, compassionate candidate for Supreme Judicial Court Clerk," said State Senator Liz Miranda. "Allison Cartwright has provided exemplary public service in our communities for nearly three decades as a public defender and attorney. Allison is a reliable source for families navigating the courts and has consistently represented the interests of working families across the criminal legal system.”

“I am so grateful for the support of Senator Miranda,” said Allison S. Cartwright. “I have deep respect for her and her incredible story. I know that she was particularly touched by my work with the Roxbury Defenders early in my career. Senator Miranda and I share a commitment to amplifying voices that are often left out of the conversation.”

Attorney Cartwright also received the endorsement of Boston District 9 City Councilor Liz Breadon, who represents the Allston-Brighton neighborhood of Boston.

“Suffolk County is fortunate to have Attorney Cartwright running for Clerk of the Supreme Judicial Court,” said Boston City Councilor Breadon. “She has been a tireless advocate in the judicial system for decades and her current work at CPCS ensures that public defenders across Suffolk County have the resources to uphold constitutional and human rights. I know she will bring the voices of the people she served into this office. Her resume speaks for itself: she is a highly qualified candidate and would be a great asset to the Supreme Judicial Court as Clerk.”

Outside of Boston, City Councilors from Revere, Chelsea, and Winthrop also endorsed Attorney Cartwright for Supreme Judicial Court Clerk.

“I’m with Allison Cartwright for Clerk of the Supreme Judicial Court,” said Revere City Councilor at-Large Marc Silvestri. “I am a person who knows what it is like to be counted out. I know what it is like to have the world against you. That’s why Allison Cartwright’s record of 30 years of defending the little guy means so much to me.”

“She has done the work and represented more than 4,500 people from throughout Massachusetts but especially, Revere, Winthrop, Chelsea, and Boston,” Silvestri continued. “Cartwright has had our backs and now it’s time to have hers.”

"Navigating our court system is daunting for immigrants, working families, and most people,” said Chelsea City Councilor at-Large Roberto Jiménez-Rivera. “We need someone who understands that justice requires action and who has a proven record of advocating for our most vulnerable. Attorney Allison Cartwright understands the courts and knows the law. She is the only candidate in this race with the right experience, and that is why she has my vote this September."

"I am proud to endorse Allison Cartwright for Clerk of the SJC,” said Vice President of the Winthrop Town Council Hannah Belcher. “Allison has the professional experience that is critical to a successful Supreme Judicial Court Clerk. Suffolk County needs a lawyer in this critical role, and Allison is the embodiment of the professional and interpersonal skills required for success."

“Since a key component of the SJC Clerk’s job is to make sure all feel welcome and respected in our courts, I set out to make sure that this grassroots campaign attracts a broad coalition,” said Allison S. Cartwright.  “Having the support of each of these elected officials means that we are building a team that reflects the diverse life experiences, backgrounds, and political perspectives seen throughout Suffolk County. ”
