July 15, 2024 – Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) today endorsed Allison Cartwright, a lawyer with more than three decades of experience, to be the next Clerk of the Supreme Judicial Court for Suffolk County.
“Over her more than 30 years as a lawyer, Allison Cartwright has demonstrated her commitment to making our legal system more accessible, more effective, and more responsive to our communities. As Clerk, she will bring a crucial focus on not only ensuring the Supreme Judicial Court functions efficiently, but on building diverse pathways into the legal profession in Massachusetts.. The work of justice-seeking must happen at every level of our government, and I’m proud to endorse Allison for this vitally important role.”
After graduating from Boston College Law School – where she participated in the law school’s BC Defenders Clinic representing clients charged with crimes in the Dorchester District Court, Cartwright began her career with the Roxbury Defenders’ Office, before working for the City of Boston and in private practice. She returned to CPCS in 2019 as Attorney-In-Charge of the Roxbury Defenders, and was later promoted to her current role as a Managing Director of the Public Defender Division’s Central Region, where she manages offices in Suffolk and Norfolk counties overseeing roughly 75 staff members.
